Louis Ferdinand Von Raisky, celebrated portraitist of the gentry of Saxonia and Franconia, his same class of origin. The original of this portrait is displayed in Munich. The choice of colors, however, is peculiar, with a dominance of fluorescent red on deep blue. The face is stylized, the expression is both hardened and distant. The secret of this painting lies in a more contemporary – and more celebrated painter. Georg Baselitz started his being a painter inspired by a reproduction of a painting by von Rayski in his local school in Saxony. An oblique homage to the great German neo-expressionist artist.
