Francis Bacon never used these lights and colors, and almost never painted female nudes. We see her, blonde, almost sexy but jaded, slumped on Mackintosh’s willow chair. She is covered by red strokes, as if she were bleeding. There is a lot of kinky sex, in this image: a pretty woman has been used, worn, covered with blood. Albeit the soft hues backing the throne, and the blue and gold velvet drape remind us of something delicate, the entire scene is disturbing. So is the bright yellow floor. There is no tenderness at all . This is a dirty sex scene, even if a glossy one.
