A lonely woman, almost melancholic. Yet so peculiar, even if not properly a common sense beauty. Loneliness dominates this big portrait. Each color is peculiar; ivory is not white, black astrakhan turns deep blue on purple. Red is at the same fluorescent and cracked. Overexposed legs suggest something equivocal in this woman. Is she waiting for someone especially or is she hooking? Once again, feminine loneliness is a theme, as the (holy) prostitute is. But most of all, the focus of this painting is color. Almost six hues from blue-gray to violet. Then red. Ivory, the gold of the elephants, hosts all of them.
